Senior PLC/DCS Engineers/Technologists 

We are currently recruiting Senior PLC/DCS Engineers/Technologists based in our Calgary and Edmonton, AB offices.

InnoTech is an engineering company focused on Operational Technology (OT) spanning instrumentation, electrical and automation infrastructure. Our team consists of highly skilled engineers, technologists, and technicians with vast experience, capable of handling both small and large OT projects while also providing support for day-to-day facility operations. InnoTech’s primary services are Controls (PLC, DCS, SCADA), Electrical (low and medium voltage), Safety Instrumented Systems (SIS) engineering, and OT Lifecycle Planning and Cybersecurity. 

Position Summary

You will provide technical leadership and support as a member of our project teams, applying and developing your knowledge in design, implementation, and commissioning to solve problems, creating value for our clients. Role and Responsibilities: 

  • Reporting to an Engineering Team Lead, the team member’s primary responsibility will be focusing on achieving project goals by collaborating with cross-discipline engineering teams. 
  • Coordinate and lead conceptual engineering solutions including scope of work, cost estimates, and implementation planning.  
  • Lead and independently design, implement, and commission client facilities’ Distributed Control Systems (DCS) and/or PLC systems as an integrated component of their process control systems.  
  • Identify DCS/PLC system reliability issues and take the required action to resolve them in a team environment involving Operations, Maintenance and Process Engineering. 
  • Develop and implement long term OT system upgrades and maintenance plans. 
  • Coordinate and lead on-site information gathering and commissioning support. 
  • Coordinate and lead control system testing. 
  • Lead the design, maintenance, and integration of client facilities’ OT networks. 
  • Lead the design, implementation, administration, documentation, and support of all devices within OT networks. 
  • Ensure redundancy and stability of all critical network devices. 
  • Lead the development of backup procedures and disaster recovery plans. Support the implementation of those procedures. 
  • Lead the implementation of OT Cybersecurity Standards. 
  • Provide technical leadership to project teams, including assigning and tracking project deliverables by junior and intermediate staff.  
  • Review and take responsibility for project deliverables developed by a project team. 
  • Demonstration and leadership in applying InnoTech Values and Disciplines. 
  • Comply with all HS&E requirements in the performance of this position’s responsibilities. 

Qualifications and Skills: 

  • A technical diploma or university degree in a relevant discipline is required. 
  • 10+ years of design and maintenance experience with Industrial Control Systems (ICS) and information management systems in an industrial environment; prior experience in network administration or OT cybersecurity is an asset. 
  • Registered as an Engineer (P.Eng.) or Professional Licensee (P.L.(Eng.)) with APEGA or Certified Engineering Technologist (C.E.T.) or Professional Technologist (P.Tech.(Eng.)) with ASET. 
  • Preference will be given to candidates with both DCS and PLC experience. 
  • Experience in oil and gas, petrochemical, pulp and paper, or electrical OT systems. 
  • Experience in delivering high quality customer service to a broad range of customers. 
  • Demonstrated leadership skills in technical staff development.

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills; fluency in English is essential. 
  • Strong Microsoft Office skills (Excel, Word, and Teams). 
  • Willingness to travel – travel to customer sites will be required (up to 20% of the time). 
  • Class 5 driver’s license. 
  • Must be legally entitled to work in Canada.
